CLOTHING TELLS A STORY.

textiles take many different forms, they assume various roles, connect communities and are the tangible ground from which all societies and cultures are unified. We believe that clothing tells a story, and at Open Air Museum, we want that story to be one of integrity, of social and environmental change in a fast paced, consumerist culture. In order for us to tell this story, we must commit every effort toward positive change.

THE IMPACT OF FAST FASHION.

The apparel industry is accountable for 10% of global carbon emissions and is the second most polluting industry next to oil. Fast fashion and the consumerist culture that propels it poses a threat on an environmental, economic and societal level. Fast Fashion is mass produced and poorly made in factories where workers are often paid unfair wages and working long hours in life threatening environments. Much is forfeited and nothing is gained.

THE SLOW FASHION MOVEMENT.

The slow fashion movement is committed to changing how clothing is made on a global level, beginning with how the natural materials are grown, woven/knit, processed, and sewn. In our words, we define the movement as conscious consumerism of sustainable, long-lasting, small batch fashion. For the slow fashion movement to continue and grow, it requires the commitment of the companies and brands in the industry, but just as importantly, it requires a change in how we consume material goods as a society.
